Education is important to the people of Grandview ... it's sort of our niche. And yet we live in an area of Johnson City in which only 2/3 of the adults have their high school diploma or equivalence (not 1/3 as I previously reported).Last week I finally had the opportunity to meet David Egbert, the new director of Science Hill Adult Education programs. He has a vision for turning the Keystone Center into a hub of learning. He invited us to come alongside them in order to tutor selected students. SHAE teaches courses for students pursuing their GED, but some students need extra help in order to keep up. That's where we come in.
You are invited to team with someone from Grandview to tutor a student and help shepherd him or her through the process of gaining a high school diploma. You won't be alone. You'll do this in conjunction with the teacher of the class.
