Leaving for the Houston airport at 4 am tomorrow morning . . .

So here is a very quick synopsis of the day:

  • Had the chance to go with the crew to Lakewood Church to sit in the third row, worship there, and meet Joel O'Steen. Passed it up in order to check out the contemplative service at Chapelwood United Methodist Church. I was very impressed. It was a meaningful service.
  • Went to Lakewood to meet up with the other Beeson Pastors as they were leaving their meeting with O'Steen.
  • Went to St. John's in downtown Houston and worshipped with a congregation that is led by a remarkable couple, Rudy and Juanita. Pictures will follow. This is an African-American (mainly) congregation that survives and thrives (in its own way) in a rough place. We had lunch with these ministers and debriefed.
  • Went to Montrose (that may not be how they spell it) section of town. This is the arts community/hip/young area where Ecclesia, a postmodern church plant, lives. The minister behind it is an emergent church guru, Chris Seay (pronounced: See). Enjoyed our time there. Went to supper with Seay.
  • Came home. It's 10:30 (Houston time) and I have to be up in about five hours.

Now I know why we say invocations in our worship services. God might get tired of showing up at church. I now believe it doesn't hurt to ask God to show up because if I were God I might have to take a break. Gracious . . . I've been to more worship services in the past few days than EVER in my life. Maybe I can catch a midnight mass before hitting the sack . . .

More to follow. Peace.

What kind of heathen would pass on the chance to touch the hem of Osteen's suit jacket? He completely change the life of a lady I know when his prayer line people told her to get her husband on disability.

Hum...Osteen's power. If a doctor says it's true, it must be!

I, for one, am glad you had the forsight to check out a contemplative service. Give details, will ya?

Juanita, who you mention in connection with her church, was a keynote speaker at the Renovare International conference last year -- a remarkable woman with an incredible ministry.

Well, at least that's how it looked in her video.
