What I Did Over Christmas Vacation

Want to know how a D.Min. student parties over Christmas break? Welcome to this edition of Pastors Gone Wild! Below you can see my classmate, Matt Scholl, standing in front of a church building so new that it isn't finished yet. Matt and I had the chance, thanks to Sandy Whybrew, to visit and tour a great new facility for a church on the north side of Indianapolis. I'm skittish about including the name of the church because Sandy was careful to make sure we understood that most members haven't had the chance to tour the areas still under construction. This was a special treat for us (Sandy used to attend North Liberty when I was kid . . . her two boys were friends of mine). This is a church on Lafayette Road where Grandview's own, David Roberts, used to be the minister. The building is built on 90 acres in an area north of Indianapolis . . . an area that's about to pop. This is the youth area. It will be host to all sorts of music/youth events. It's directly above the ministers office . . . the only design flaw that was apparent to me as an outsider. This is an area above the main entrance. It will be used for various events, but especially as a smallish chapel for weddings and funerals and such. This is the front of the new sanctuary which will seat (if I recall correctly) about 3000.This is the seating area for worship.

The children's area is the home to some really good mural work.
This is the gymnasium where the church is meeting while waiting for the sanctuary to be finished. This is all, obviously, costing a pretty penny. It looks like the money being spent will facilitate this congregations ability to serve in the community for a long time to come.

Thanks, Sandy, for the great tour. I know you were very busy that day.Did you think Matt and I were done partying? No Way! After that church visit we went to visit Matt's former place of service in Mooresville, Indiana (south of Indy). Below you can see Matt looking at home in his old pulpit.
