Odds and (week)Ends

Friday night rolled around and the whole family went to watch (and hear) Meghan play in the West Jessamine Colts Marching Band. Meg has been slaving away at band camp for the past two weeks. This week was especially tough because of two things 1) it started at 9am and ended 9pm daily, and 2) the weather has been so hot and muggy. If you know where to look you can see Meghan playing the flute. The red arc goes right through her feet. I'm sorry the picture isn't great but, hey, it's a cell phone.
The band was quite good for having only worked on the show for two weeks. The band director is new, so even the upper classmen are learning a new system. If you look below you can see that it didn't take Cora long to make a friend while we were waiting for the band picnic to start.
On Saturday morning Cora and I went into Wilmore and boarded the Wilmore Museum train car. It's only open on Saturdays from noon to two. Cecil gave us the grand tour and we learned some nice things about Wilmore.

One of the things we learned? How the town came to be called Wilmore. It was originally Scott Station (I think I've got that right). When Mr. Scott sued the railroad to recover the cost of two of his donkeys that were killed when hit by a train, the railway company changed the name to Wilmore (after Mr. Scott's cousin).
It's a nice little museum . . . but you have to be here at just the right time. Speaking of being here at just the right time, Meghan's friend, Brooke, came to visit us on Saturday. They went to see a movie and then Meghan was able to show Brooke around campus. John Wesley looks good . . . even when he's being tackled.

Cindy and I took Brooke back to Lexington (where her dad lives) and we had supper at Belle Notte's with Scott and Kate Layer. Kate is almost a week past due, so we took advantage of her parents being in town to watch their young'ns. In this picture Scott and I are simultaneously taking each other's pictures for our blogs. You can see Scott's blog at www.thelayerfamily.blogspot.com
