Thursday Morning Preachers

On Thursday morning we finished the first round of Beesonite sermons. Jason was wide awake and ready to be preached at--either that or he is contemplating becoming pentecostal. Scott, as you will recall, is my next door neighbor and a guy I'm hoping will be assigned to a church somewhere in or near Johnson City after our year here.
Scott preached on the leadership qualities of Moses, his willingness to put it all on the line for people he didn't always like. Scott's style is relational. You feel like you're in a one-on-one conversation with him.
Nolan is from the South Alabama conference of the United Methodist Church. I like Nolan despite his Auburn University heritage. We can be friends until the Florida-Auburn game (which will be played while we're in London, so we won't get to watch it together or apart).Nolan preached on Moses' "double tap" of the rock in the wilderness. His controlling image of the double tap worked well (and was memorable!).

Last, but never least, was Matt. Here you see him with his wife, Rebecca (their family will expand in October!). They have a beautiful one-year-old girl, Alaina--who runs around fearlessly with a big smile on her face.
Matt's sermon was well-written, with a poetic edge. He preached on the "Dry bones" passage from Ezekial and used "breath" images well. His story about being a 12-year-old Cub Scout and having to kiss a girl with alcohol on her breath brought the house down. The girl, Annie, was the CPR doll used in training.

Wow -- Beesoniers sure like Moses, don't they? That's a lot of Moses sermons.

Someone needs to preach Acts at them!

Nate,
The first assignment was to preach from the OLD TESTAMENT. Next we have the New Testament assignment . . . but I haven't chosen Acts 2:38. Do you forgive me?

Not preaching from Acts 2:38?

You're missing a geat opportunity there, Aaron ol' buddy.

Oh! I bet you've chosen I Peter 3:18-22! Right?

I am confident that whichever NT passage you choose, you'll acquit yourself well and your peers will be blessed.

Good to hear you are on this sabbatical. What an opportunity you have!

God's Blessings on you and your family, Aaron. Give my best to your Dad, too!

Fred,

Good to hear from you. I hope all is well in your new venture.

And, you're right, this has been a wonderful opportunity. I'm trying to take full advantage of it!
