Today's lecture began as a "fly-over" of the world of archaeology. Dr. Richter is a graduate of Gordon-Cromwell and Harvard (don't worry, Jason Bembry, you are still my favorite G-C, Harvard grad). The first hour of the lecture was a defense of biblical narratives based upon the conditions of the ancient world, remnants of which have been uncovered by archaeology. She spoke during the second hour on the Neo-Assyrian crisis that the ancient Near East experienced upon the death of Sargon II (705 BCE) and the ascension of Sennacherib to the throne and how that relates to the biblical narratives of Hezekiah that we find in Kings, Isaiah, and the Chronicles. She reported on this case study because there is so much evidence, biblical and non-biblical regarding this period.
It was another excellent day. Between Richter and Pasquarello, this has been an excellent week for the Beeson Pastors.
